This long, leisurely cycling loop starts right at Camping Murinsel and winds its way for about 39 kilometers through the varied landscape of the Aichfeld. The tour is ideal for anyone who wants to set out on a long bike ride from the campground without a long drive.

With an elevation gain of about 310 meters, the loop remains technically manageable and easy to complete, though its length does require a moderate level of fitness. The tour is both enjoyable and active: quiet stretches, easy-to-ride paths, gentle climbs, and frequent beautiful views of the surrounding Murtal landscape.

Starting right at the campground is especially convenient. This makes the tour easy to fit into a day of your vacation: set off on your bike, explore the region, and then return comfortably to the starting point. The loop is well-suited for e-bikes, trekking bikes, and fit casual cyclists.

By Car

From Vienna (approx. 2 hours):

  1. Take the A2 towards Graz.
  2. At St. Michael junction (161), switch to the S36 towards Judenburg/Knittelfeld.
  3. Take the Knittelfeld-West exit.
  4. Follow the signs towards Großlobming.
  5. In the village centre, follow the signs to Camping Murinsel / Café Holiday Camping.
  6. The campsite is located directly on the Mur River and offers parking.

From Graz (approx. 1 hour):

  1. Take the A9 towards Linz/Salzburg.
  2. At St. Michael junction (161), change to the S36 towards Judenburg/Knittelfeld.
  3. Take the Knittelfeld-West exit.
  4. Follow the signs to Großlobming.
  5. In the village, follow the signs to Camping Murinsel / Café Holiday Camping.

From Salzburg (approx. 2.5–3 hours):

  1. Take the A10 towards Villach.
  2. At exit 63-Altenmarkt, change to the B320 towards Radstadt/Schladming.
  3. Continue via Schladming to Liezen.
  4. Join the A9 towards Graz.
  5. At St. Michael junction, switch to the S36 towards Judenburg/Knittelfeld.
  6. Take the Knittelfeld-West exit.
  7. Follow the signs towards Großlobming.
  8. In the village, follow the signs to Camping Murinsel / Café Holiday Camping.

The loop starts at Camping Murinsel in Großlobming and heads straight into the cycling landscape of the Aichfeld. At the beginning, you ride comfortably out of the campground area and through the open valley toward Knittelfeld. The first few kilometers are a good warm-up before the route gradually transitions into the northern parts of the Aichfeld.

As the tour continues, it heads toward St. Margarethen near Knittelfeld and into the hillier landscape north of Knittelfeld. Here, the loop reveals its varied character: smooth, rolling sections, gentle climbs, and quieter stretches combine to create a challenging yet manageable ride. Time and again, beautiful views open up of the Aichfeld, the Murtal landscape, and the surrounding mountain ranges.

After reaching the highest point of the loop, the route heads back down toward the valley floor. The ride takes you through the open landscape of the Aichfeld back to the Großlobming area via easily rideable sections. The final kilometers are a pleasant rollout before you arrive back at Camping Murinsel.

It is easy to get here by train and bus. There are regular train services via Knittelfeld station. From there, you can take the regional bus to Großlobming. The bus stop is a short walk from Camping Murinsel. Please check the current timetables. Bus stop: Großlobming Siedlungsstraße
