This walk takes you to the Red Bull Ring’s landmark, the steel bull. On the way back, you’ll walk part of the way along the old racetrack, the Österreichring, which was used before the Red Bull Ring was built.
Engines are roaring in the Murtal . The Red Bull Ring thrills motorsports fans from all over the world. Why not combine your visit to the racetrack with a short hike? Visit the racetrack’s landmark, the 17.2-meter-tall steel bull, which was created in 2012 from 1,700 Corten steel plates by artists Clemens Neugebauer and Martin Kölldorfer. The trail takes you further along the old racetrack—the former Red Bull Ring—and through Bike City, bringing you back to the Red Bull Ring Welcome Center, where you can enjoy refreshing drinks, cake, ice cream, and snacks.

From Vienna and Eastern Austria
Take the A2 motorway towards Graz, then continue on the S6 to the St. Michael interchange. Change to the S36 towards Knittelfeld/Judenburg, take the Zeltweg Ost/Spielberg exit and follow the signs to the Red Bull Ring.
From Graz and Southern Styria
Take the A9 motorway towards Salzburg and travel through the Gleinalm Tunnel, which is subject to a toll, to the St. Michael interchange. Continue on the S36 towards Knittelfeld/Judenburg and take the Zeltweg Ost/Spielberg exit.
An alternative route leads via the A2 motorway, Bad St. Leonhard, the B78 road, Obdach and Weißkirchen to Spielberg.
From Carinthia
Travel either via the A2 motorway to Wolfsberg and continue through Bad St. Leonhard, Obdach and Weißkirchen, or take the S37 and B317 towards Judenburg. From there, follow the signs to the Red Bull Ring.
From Salzburg
Take the A10 motorway to St. Michael im Lungau, then continue via the B96 through Tamsweg, Murau and Judenburg to Spielberg.
From Upper Austria
Take the A9 motorway through the Bosruck Tunnel, which is subject to a toll, and continue via the St. Michael interchange onto the S36.
Alternatively, leave the motorway at Trieben and continue via the B114, the Triebener Tauern mountain pass, Pöls and Judenburg.
Head west from the main entrance of the Welcome Center and follow the road through the tunnel. Here you can enter the paddock, but turn left before the gate and follow the road. You’ll come to a fork in the road where you turn left toward the steel bull. The path then leads back to the main road; here, continue along the paved road toward Schönberghof (note: vehicles are also allowed here), turn left at the stable below the Hotel Schönberghof, and follow the path—you’re now on the old race track. Now follow the signs to return to the Welcome Center.
A culinary detour to the Schönberghof, including the Taurusbar, is well worth it and offers a wonderful view of the region. After the hike, it's worth stopping by Bulls Lane, the restaurant located on the roof of the Red Bull Ring's pit lane.
The Red Bull Ring is easily accessible by bus from Knittelfeld, and Knittelfeld is accessible by train. For more information, visit: BusBahnBim Routenplaner
