artGarden

The kunstGarten (art garden) in Graz-Gries combines contemporary art with garden architecture, turning nature into an open exhibition space. On an area of 1300 square meters, plants, sculptures, and multimedia works are alongside historic rose collections and old tools. The area includes the Hortopia Archive, which features a garden library with over 4000 titles, a video library, and a street gallery.

In addition to the collections, readings, concerts, film screenings, and workshops regularly take place. The themes range from the environment and society to questions of identity, creating diverse access points to art and culture.

The facility was founded in 2004 and brought the idea of the garden as a public art space to the Graz Region. Since then, the artGarden has connected contemporary art with nature, thereby creating a framework in which both areas creatively intersect.
