The Wahlfahrtskirche (pilgrimage church) of St. John and Paul is located on the Buchkogel and offers an impressive view over Graz and the surrounding area. It was already mentioned in 1507 as "Johann am Kögelein," but the expansion of the church took place between 1589 and 1594 on behalf of Archduchess Maria Anna of Bavaria.
The interior surprises with frescoes of Saints John and Paul, as well as depictions of Christian virtues. In addition, an archaeological find made in 2004 makes the site one of the oldest settlements in Styria.
Surrounding the church, nature invites relaxation and hiking. The observation platform at the summit of Buchkogel offers an incredible view of Graz, the Schöckl, and far beyond the region. For families, there is a playground, and after a hike, everyone can enjoy a hearty meal at the Gasthaus St. Johann & Paul.
