Parz Accordion Manufacturing
Semriach
Since 1978, the Parz family in Semriach has been creating Styrian harmonicas with meticulous craftsmanship. Instruments are made for every playing level – from the easy school harmonica for children to concert instruments for the stage. Repairs and restorations of Styrian and chromatic harmonicas are also part of the family's craft.
Motto: A Styrian for life
Since 1978, the Parz family has been building Styrian harmonicas in Semriach for initial playing attempts, sociable music evenings, and large stages. Today, four of the five children of Franz and Hildegard Parz work in the family business, and three family members are master harmonica makers.
Each harmonica is made individually to order. About 2,500 individual parts fit together precisely. Dried spruce forms the lightweight, resonant body, fittings are worked by hand, and the bellows are constructed from raw cardboard and goat leather. Depending on the preference, the instrument can have buttons made of wood or horn, inlays, hand-painted motifs, or fine engravings.
Three-row, four-row, and five-row models are produced – from school harmonicas to professional concert instruments. A compact mini harmonica for on-the-go is also part of the range. Depending on the model, each instrument involves between 50 and 100 working hours.
During the final tuning, each harmonica receives its own unique sound. The craftsmanship also includes bringing older instruments back to life. In the workshop in Semriach, harmonicas from various manufacturers are repaired and restored – including pieces that have been played for around a hundred years.
Special:
Anyone who orders a harmonica from us can witness the creation of their own instrument. During tours of the workshop, we show how much handwork is involved in a Styrian harmonica. To keep the knowledge and passion alive, we train apprentices and offer harmonica courses for children and adults.
