Nine calibrated cameras capture a 180-degree view of Lena's face in a single shot. 45 million measurement points are processed simultaneously. The young apprentice at Optik Rossmann demonstrates the Zeiss “Visufit 1000", a precision device for digital eyewear fitting. An integrated posture assistant even corrects unnatural postures while the system determines the corneal vertex distance and pupillary distance with millimeter accuracy. “These precise measurements are especially crucial for progressive lenses,” explains Anita Rossmann. Staying at the cutting edge of technology is not a nice-to-have for the master optician, but part of the company philosophy. This very standard is also what the loyal clientele has appreciated in Anton and Anita Rossmann for decades. Since 1993, the two have run their business in Reitschulgasse, right in the heart of Graz. Anton is now enjoying his well-deserved retirement.

Before the visual acuity is measured, the optician has many questions for her customers: What exactly is the glasses needed for – driving, for the screen, for reading? In the workshop, the actual craftsmanship begins. The round semi-finished lenses go into a semi-automatic grinding machine. It precisely removes material until the glass exactly matches the previously captured values. Hand polishing is done at a separate station before the frame is adjusted one last time, so that the glasses neither slide nor press at the end.

Some customers remain particularly memorable, like the one who insisted on bright yellow lenses and ultimately got them. “Almost nothing is impossible for us," chuckles Anita Rossmann. In a few years, when Anita Rossmann also retires, Florian Ebner will take over the business – the young master optician and contact lens specialist with a Bachelor of Optometry has been part of the team since 2022. The Rossmann brand will continue, along with the connection to its long-standing customers. For Anita Rossmann, it’s a good feeling: “It’s a stroke of luck that our life's work is going to such good hands."
