If you love the rustic and original aspects of pilgrimage and hiking and want to stop or even spend the night in a rustic shelter, the Mühlbacher Hut is recommended. Here, there is no hot water, but many relaxed faces, an incredible panorama, delicious cocktails, and meals prepared over a wood stove – just like in the times of the old pilgrims.
The Mühlbacher Hut, situated at about 996 meters above sea level on the Mühlbachkogel, is open from May 9 to October 26 on weekends and holidays and is only accessible on foot. Outside of opening hours, there is a shelter with drinks available. In addition to the scenic guest garden, you can enjoy homemade delicacies like pot strudel and pork roast in the cozy guest room.
Tip for getting there:
You can take the Flux shared taxi from Gratwein train station to Hörgasbauer and then hike along the scenic Kaschlsteig to the hut. If you prefer fewer elevation meters, the Mühlbacher Hut can also be reached from Plesch. The descent can then be made via the same path or past Stift Rein.
