Kern Buam Museum

Interesting and informative details from the musical and private life of the Kern Buam, as well as the entire history of the development of one of the most famous and successful folk music groups in Austria, are presented through numerous exhibits.

The location of the museum, the Gasthaus Schneiderwirt, was the home of the "Trombone King Fritz Pignitter", who actively contributed to the construction of the museum.

The building

The structure is made up of the wooden parts of two old farmhouses. Each of them was over 300 years old and was actually slated for demolition. Through the construction of the Kern Buam Museum, these historically significant building components have been repurposed, making a significant contribution to the character of this building.

The history of the Kern Buam – a Styrian custom

The museum tells the unique story of the Original Kern Buam, which was one of the most successful Austrian folk music groups of the last decades of the 20th century. The five musicians have made music history with their unmistakable sound, releasing more than 500 music pieces, foremost among them the well-known “Steirische Brauch,” which has become a hallmark of Styrian folk culture for more than five decades.

With the opening of the Kern Buam Museum in 2000, the probably most important ambassadors of the Styrian way of life of their time have received a museum and thus a metaphorical kneeling in honor of their life's work.
