Kern Buam Museum

At the Schneiderwirt in Voitsberg, the Kern Buam Museum tells the story of one of the best-known Austrian folk music groups of the 20th century. Numerous exhibits provide insights into the musical creations and private lives of the original Kern Buam and trace the journey of the five musicians over many decades.

Closely connected to this place is Fritz Pignitter, who became known as the "King of Trombones" of the Kern Buam. The Schneiderwirt was his home, and he also actively contributed to the construction of the museum. The building itself significantly adds to the special atmosphere. It was made from the wooden parts of two more than 300-year-old farmhouses that were originally intended for demolition. Historical building material thus received a new purpose and today forms the characterful framework for the exhibition.

At the center is the success story of the original Kern Buam. With their unmistakable sound, they shaped Austrian folk music and published more than 500 music pieces. Among their most famous titles is "Der Steirische Brauch," which for decades became a trademark of Styrian folk culture.

Since its opening in the year 2000, the Kern Buam Museum has kept the memory of the musicians and their life's work alive. A visit combines music history, personal stories, and West Styrian folk culture into a special destination in the Lipizzanerheimat.
