The Open Air Cinema on the Mur Island is one of the most atmospheric events of the Graz summer season. From July to September, the amphitheater transforms into an open-air cinema.
International film classics and current Austrian productions are screened, carefully curated by the Film Center at Rechbauerkino, resulting in a program that promises a colorful selection of films. Before each screening, film expert Alex Desmond prepares the audience for the evening with background stories and anecdotes.
Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Since the island's capacity is limited, arriving early is recommended - around an hour before the film starts usually secures a spot.
In good weather, the films are shown under the open sky in the amphitheater. Should it rain, the cinema quickly relocates to the café of the Mur Island, ensuring that it remains a special summer experience.
