Schöckl – Graz's local mountain

Starting at the bus stop “Fuß der Leber”, the route follows the newly created trail 20 a, beginning with a short but steep ascent along Leberstraße. The trail then turns right and continues on a forest path to Kalkleitenstraße. After a short 300 m section on a paved road, the route continues right on trail 20 a until it joins trail 20 towards Göstinger Forsthaus. From there, trail 730 leads to the Johann-Waller-Hütte in about 15 minutes. After a stop at the hut, the trail climbs to the Schöckl western summit in around 45 minutes and continues for another 15 minutes to the Schöckl cable car mountain station on the Schöckl Plateau.

The cable car can be used for the descent to St. Radegund.

Those continuing across the plateau towards the east reach the Johannes Chapel and the Schöcklkopf eastern summit. Alternatively, the adventure circular trail leads down to the Halterhütte and via trail 21 to the cable car valley station in St. Radegund. The route can also be walked in the opposite direction from St. Radegund to Stattegg.

Schöckl can be hiked from all directions and, thanks to its excellent public transport connections, offers many options for day hikes and multi-day tours. An overnight stay at Stubenberghaus or the traditional Johann-Waller-Hütte turns the hike into a special mountain experience.

Bus: Graz city bus line 53 to the final stop “Stattegg Fuß der Leber”. Return journey from the stop “St. Radegund bei Graz, Seilbahn Talstation” with regional bus line 250 to Graz.

Paid parking is available at the Schöckl cable car valley station in St. Radegund. Additional hiking parking areas are located on the Leber, in Kalkleiten/Stattegg and in Steingraben along Steingrabenstraße. There is no parking available at the bus terminus “Stattegg Fuß der Leber”.
