Through open woodland and across the ridge, the trail climbs to Speikkogel. The summit offers wide views of Upper Styria, the Seckau Alps and the Graz Basin. In late June and early July, the blooming alpine roses add vibrant colour to the landscape.

The hike starts at the Salzstiegelhaus at around 1,543 m above sea level. From here, the trail follows the Austrian North-South Long-Distance Trail through open woodland, climbing steadily towards the tree line. Passing the wind turbines and reservoir, the ascent becomes steeper and follows the ridge to the summit cross of Stubalm-Speikkogel.

The summit offers wide views across Upper Styria, the Seckau Alps and the Graz Basin. In late June and early July, the blooming alpine roses add vibrant colour to the landscape. With sufficient fitness, the hike can be extended along the ridge towards Ameringkogel.

Car:
Take the A2 motorway to the Modriach exit. Continue via the Modriach regional road through Hirschegg to Salzstiegl. The Salzstiegelhaus can be reached via a forest road. Alternatively, park at Moasterhaus and hike up to the Salzstiegelhaus.
Parking is available at Salzstiegelhaus or Moasterhaus.

The hike starts at the Salzstiegelhaus at around 1,543 m above sea level. Passing the Salzstiegelhaus, follow long-distance trail 505 towards the wind turbines. After about 45 minutes, you reach the wind turbines and the reservoir.

From here, the trail climbs more steeply along the ridge to the summit cross of Stubalm-Speikkogel. The return follows the same route.

In late June and early July, the alpine rose bloom adds vibrant colour to the landscape. In good weather, the hike can be extended towards Ameringkogel or Peterer Riegel.
