Special guided tour: Baroque canopies at the Chamber Music Festival

Colors, figures, and painted sky spaces characterize baroque art in Stift Rein. The special tour “Baroque Skies” focuses on frescoes and images that not only served as decoration but also told stories and conveyed concrete messages.

During the tour of the monastery, the path leads to selected artworks in the state rooms, the library, and the basilica. Together with Günter Theuerkauf, their visual language, symbols, and narrative details are deciphered. This reveals what the artists of the baroque period wanted to communicate to their contemporary audience and why some of these messages can still be related to the present.

The tour accompanies three night concerts of the series “Reinkultur” as part of the chamber music festival celebrating its 30th anniversary. For the first time, thematic special tours coordinated with the concerts are offered at Stift Rein. The dates are August 6 before “Reinkultur I”, August 13 before “Reinkultur II”, and August 19 before “Reinkultur III – Fantasia”. The respective concerts start at 9:00 p.m. in the Huldigungssaal.
