On Saturday, November 14th, the municipality of Premstätten invites you to an atmospheric evening of local customs in the heart of Styria. The meeting point is the Sports Park Premstätten, where numerous Perchten groups from the region come together. The procession starts at around 5:30 PM in the center of Premstätten.
The dark season in the Graz area will take on a lively atmosphere this evening: Masked figures with old legends and traditions roam the streets, creating sounds with bells, rattles, and rhythmic stamping, thus forming a connection between folk culture, community, and regional identity. In the Graz Region, this procession offers a unique opportunity to experience local customs up close.
Visitors can expect an opening into the origins: Sounds, mist, dim light, torches or candlelight – all of this contributes to the atmosphere. The Perchten groups not only perform; they also provide insight into the art of mask-making and the regional preservation of crafts and traditions.
