Natural history excursion: Edible treasures from nature
Workshop on edible mushrooms and superfoods exploring and foraging together in nature.
On November 8, 2026, an interested group will meet in front of the municipal office in Lassnitzhöhe for a workshop on edible mushrooms and plant-based superfoods from nature. The nature around the area invites exploration of forests and meadows in the cooler season, allowing participants to consciously recognize the treasures on the ground. In times of rising prices and increasingly artificial food, the interest in identifying natural foods directly from the wild, gathering them, and using them purposefully is growing. The course focuses on the variety of mushrooms, herbs, and meadow plants that seasonally surround us and can enrich our kitchens or serve as dietary supplements.
Participants will together take a walk into the nearby forests and meadows. Under expert guidance, they will learn how to distinguish edible mushrooms from toxic species and what to consider when gathering them. Safety is paramount: only what is clearly identified will be discussed and highlighted. Additionally, all participants will receive tips on processing options and simple recipe ideas that can be easily tried at home. The collected mushrooms and plants can be taken home and are suitable for personal preparation.
The workshop is designed to be interesting for both beginners and those with some prior knowledge. Families with children are welcome, as are those who are curious to learn more about the nature right outside their door and to acquire practical skills. Dogs are welcome to accompany their owners. The route is easy to walk and will be adapted to the interests of the group. The meeting point is at the municipal office in Lassnitzhöhe; the duration is approximately two to three hours, depending on interest.
This afternoon is organized in the Graz Region in Styria with the aim of imparting knowledge about natural nutrition, mindfulness in nature, and practical skills in identifying plants and mushrooms.
A registration is required at least two days before the date at +43 664 9416089. Lassnitzhöhe and the surrounding forests will provide a place for learning and discovery in nature on this day.
