For the Long Night of Museums on October 3rd, the Technical Railway Museum in Lieboch makes railway history tangible. Historical vehicles and numerous exhibits demonstrate how much technology, precision, and organization were involved in the railway operations of past decades.
Among the special exhibits is a steam locomotive driver's cabin in a 1:1 scale. It provides an immediate impression of how closely technology and manual labor worked together in the operation of a steam locomotive. Also on display is a command device from the Lieboch station as well as a recreated train control from around 1900. This clearly illustrates how train traffic was coordinated and daily life at a train station was organized.
Photos, historical plans, locomotive plaques, tools, and models complement the exhibition and make technological developments as comprehensible as the railway working world.
Thus, the Long Night offers a great opportunity to get to know the history of the railway in Lieboch up close – surrounded by heavy machinery, historical signals, and many details that are otherwise easily overlooked.
