LIPIZZANIA – International Horse Film Festival

When film art meets the world of Lipizzaners, an extraordinary festival format emerges in Köflach and Piber: From September 10th to 13th 2026, LIPIZZANIA celebrates its premiere and makes West Styria a meeting point for horse films, stories about nature, and special encounters for four days.

At the cradle of the world-famous Lipizzaners, the international film festival showcases productions revolving around horses, nature, and animals. A dedicated children’s and youth section expands the program and makes LIPIZZANIA exciting for young film enthusiasts as well. Locations such as the Federal Stud Piber, Piber Castle, the Köflach Town Hall, and the theatre cellar in the Kunsthaus connect film screenings with the special atmosphere of the region.

Among the special program highlights are a new Styrian crime story by bestselling author Claudia Rossbacher and an evening with actress Eva Herzig. At the Museum of the Stud Piber, she recalls the ORF series "Das Glück dieser Erde"; two episodes of the series and a public talk are on the program. Additionally, there are documentaries from the world of horses, children’s and youth films, film screenings in the state rooms of Piber Castle, as well as ART-LIPIZZANIA with film and breakfast.

LIPIZZANIA connects film, equestrian culture, and regional tradition in a place that is almost uniquely associated with Lipizzaners – thus creating a new cultural accent in the Lipizzaner homeland.
