Krampuskränzchen der Weinitzer Bergteifln
When St. Nicholas comes to Weinitzen and the mountain girls show their performance, the lived Styrian customs during Advent are felt.
During the Kampuskränzchen of the Weinitz Bergteifln, Advent in Weinitzen is rough, hearty, and very Styrian. On December 4th, the evening begins
- at 6:00 p.m. with a visit from St. Nicholas
- at 6:30 p.m. the performance of the Krampusses follows.
Amidst masks, bells, and smoke, a tradition emerges that is deeply rooted in Styria and remains especially lively in the Schöckl region.
The Weinitz Bergteifln represent the Krampus tradition from the vicinity of Graz. Their association passes on the enthusiasm for this custom to young people as well. Thus, a loud spectacle without meaning does not occur, but rather an evening filled with village spirit, craftsmanship, and much dedication behind the masks.
For families, the early start with St. Nicholas is a good fit. Afterwards, it gets wilder when the Krampusses showcase their run. This very mix is what defines the Kampuskränzchen: first a quieter Advent, then the sound of bells, fur, horns, and the special excitement that comes with a Krampus run.
