Graz is a city of contrasts: a student city and "Pensionopolis", Austria's culinary capital and "City of Design". The old town is under special protection as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the Mur district is known as a hotspot for creative life, international cuisine, street art, and festivals.
The districts of Gries and Lend are different – and that's exactly what makes them worth seeing. In the "Grätzeln," much has changed, but some things have remained. Former artisan, entertainment, and red-light districts tell a story of a vibrant past and continue to shape the image of these neighborhoods.
We explore the right side of the Mur away from the usual tourist paths, take a look behind the scenes, and let locals have their say. We learn what has changed in the Lend district, who has helped shape this transformation, and what remains of the old quarter. To conclude, we will have a special encounter: we will meet a woman who has actively participated in the change in the Lend district, and we will finish our tour with a small snack with her.
