Dates and Topics:

Coin Cabinet at Eggenberg Castle, Women on Gold and Silver, 10.24.2026 & 12.05.2026, 11.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.
Coins are much more than just means of payment. They provide valuable insights into political power, influence, and the culture of various societies. As an early mass medium, they were also produced and disseminated to provide targeted information to the public. When looking closer at the Coin Cabinet's collection, it becomes apparent that portraits on coins show men far more often than women. Together we want to get to the bottom of this fact.
Who were the women who managed to be depicted on coins? What power did they have? For what reasons were they portrayed? What are the ongoing effects of the exclusion of women from financial and monetary systems to this day?
Meeting point: Eggenberg Castle, Park Box, 15 minutes before the start of the tour

Folklore Museum, Women in Professional Life and the Labor World, 10.31.2026 & 12.12.2026, 10.00 a.m. - 11.00 a.m.
Little noticed, undervalued, underpaid, suppressed, and sometimes even harshly fought against. Just a few keywords summarizing the tension field of 'women's work.' For a long time categorized only as a 'supplement' to the husband's income or as a separate dowry, women's work long lacked the recognition and compensation it deserved.
Starting from historical women's biographies in the Folklore Museum, we will examine difficulties and challenges, tracing the roots of present-day issues. Are there still 'typical' women's professions today? Why is housework considered less valuable than paid work? And why is care work still so unequally distributed?
Meeting point: Folklore Museum at Paulustor, foyer
