Concert: music eveningsGRAZ

The concert “Bruch | Horovitz | Shostakovich” navigates through different sound worlds of chamber music. In the chamber music hall in Graz, clarinet, cello, and piano come together in a program that connects music from the 19th and 20th centuries.

For this evening, two musicians from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra have been engaged: Gerald Pachinger, solo clarinetist of the orchestra, and Christoph Stradner, principal cellist. Together with the piano, they create a concentrated chamber music interplay that makes the special colors of this combination audible.

The program begins with the Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano by Joseph Horovitz. The piece combines clear lines with rhythmic lightness. Following this is the Cello Sonata in D minor, Op. 40 by Dmitri Shostakovich. The music oscillates between quiet melancholy and powerful outbursts.

Closing the concert are the “8 Pieces, Op. 83” by Max Bruch for clarinet, cello, and piano. The short character pieces display many moods: lyrical, dance-like, and narrative.
