Concert: ‘Solo’
Guitar sounds in a sacred space: Wolfgang Muthspiel presents his solo program "Études / Quietudes" in the Church of Maria Schutz in Stattegg, balancing virtuosity, poetry, and improvisation.
Admission: € 29.00 Adult | € 14.50 Youth/Student.
When the delicate sounds of an acoustic guitar meet the unique architecture of a church space, an engaging dialogue emerges between music and space. On November 19, the Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel will present his new solo program “Études / Quietudes” in the Church of Maria Schutz in Stattegg.
With this program, Muthspiel increasingly turns to the acoustic guitar and explores its sonic diversity. Nine original compositions unfold different musical moods – from highly virtuosic, sparkling sequences to quiet, poetic, and contemplative passages. Particularly in the sacred setting, the subtle nuances of his guitar playing and the interplay between sound and silence come to the forefront.
Another facet of the evening will be improvisations on lute music by Johann Sebastian Bach. These will be complemented by a homage to jazz pianist Bill Evans as well as musical explorations of themes by drummer Paul Motian. Muthspiel thereby combines influences from classical music and jazz into a distinct musical language.
