Concert: Messa da Requiem

Su., 08.11.2026 from 20:00 o'clock

Verdi's magnificent Requiem Mass fills the Graz Cathedral with gripping choral sounds, dramatic orchestral power, and touching moments, a concert with musical passion.

Tickets required!

When powerful choral voices meet the richness of a large orchestra, music unfolds with overwhelming expressiveness. Giuseppe Verdi's “Messa da Requiem” will be performed on November 8 2026 in the Graz Cathedral, one of the most moving masterpieces of classical music.

Verdi's Requiem is much more than a traditional funeral mass. It is a musical drama full of passion, tension, and deeply felt humanity. Thunderous orchestral sounds and massive choral entries alternate with delicate, almost ethereal passages. Particularly the famous “Dies irae” unleashes a sonic power that goes straight to the soul. In the quieter moments, the other side of this extraordinary work reveals itself: full of longing, comfort, and hope.

For this grand concert event, the Cathedral Choir, the Cathedral Cantorei, the Youth Cantorei at the Cathedral, the HIB.art.chor, and the Cathedral Orchestra come together. Together, they will present Verdi's monumental composition in the Graz Cathedral. The traditional church space offers an impressive setting in which the full emotional range of the work can be experienced.

With this concert, the Graz Cathedral Music sets a powerful musical statement and connects the great Italian music tradition with the vibrant choral culture of the Styrian capital.

Tickets are available in two categories: Category I € 48.00 | € 38.00 reduced; Category II € 38.00 | € 28.00 reduced as well as at the box office
Advance sales are in the tourism information center on Herrengasse or online.

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. Already at 7:15 p.m., an introductory lecture by Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Harald Haslmayr will provide exciting insights into Verdi's masterpiece.
