When the scent of baked apples, mulled cider, and fresh wood wafts over the farm, a particularly atmospheric Advent season begins at Hüblerhof in Semriach. On December 12 and 13, the farm of the Fodermayer family transforms into a lovingly designed Advent market, where rural traditions, genuine craftsmanship, and pre-Christmas coziness take center stage.
For nearly 25 years, the Bauernbund Windhof and the hosting family have been organizing this Advent market, which captivates with its authenticity and warmth. Amongst stables and barns, Styrian artisans showcase their works made from ceramics, wood, glass, tin, felt, and beeswax. Traditional nativity scenes, regional Christmas trees, and handcrafted gift ideas spark the anticipation for Christmas.
It gets particularly exciting at the demonstration forge, where children can try their hand with hammer and anvil. The animal residents of the farm also ensure sparkling eyes in children: goats, an ox, donkeys, and alpacas make the Advent market a delightful destination for families.
For wintery enjoyment, there are baked apples from the wood stove, mulled cider, mulled mead, and other homemade specialties. Christmas music accompanies the cozy gathering.
The Advent market at Hüblerhof shows how original and heartfelt Advent can be in the Graz Region – with living traditions, regional delicacies, and many small moments full of Christmas joy.
Semriach is accessible by public transportation.
