Bärnbach celebrates Barbara
Experience Christmas customs and traditional mining highlights in front of and inside St Barbara's Church in Bärnbach.
In the Graz Region, specifically in Bärnbach, the Advent season is celebrated in a special way. On Saturday, the 28th of November, the Advent market at Telepark Platz starts at 10:00 a.m. Look forward to lovingly designed stalls with handcrafted arts and crafts and culinary delights from the region. The festive illumination of the Christmas lights at 5:00 p.m. by Mayor Jochen Bocksruker is a magical moment that transforms the entire center into a Christmas light display.
Following this, the Barbara celebration begins, dedicated to mining traditions and a firmly established part of regional culture. At 5:30 p.m., the mountain chapel Oberdorf-Bärnbach opens with a lively concert in front of the St. Barbara Church, followed by the "Barbara High Mass" at 6:00 p.m., celebrated by city pastor Mag. Winfried Lembacher and vicar Dr. Johannes Sauseng.
After the service, participants gather for the traditional march, which begins at 7:15 p.m. and leads to the Volkshaus Bärnbach. There, the ceremonial event will take place starting at 8:00 p.m. A special highlight is the "Ledersprung," a mining tradition led this year by Claus Deutsch. The evening will be accompanied by musical contributions from students of the Bärnbach music and middle school.
Whether as a family, with friends, or alone – the Barbara celebration and the Advent market offer a special opportunity to get in the mood for the Advent season and to spend an unforgettable day in Styria. The Graz Region invites you to be part of this unique cultural festival.
