A ‘blooming’ culinary journey
“Thank you for the flowers”
As part of the annual theme BLOOM, the Universalmuseum Joanneum invites you to dive into the fascinating world of flowers – as a symbol, as an art form, and as an emotional archive of our lives.
At the Volkskundemuseum, you will encounter the impressive installation Unforgettable by the artist Regula Dettwiler: Thousands of lifelike flowers unite to create a colorful bouquet – each one a silent bearer of memories of a person.
In Kunsthaus Graz, you will then discover what stories pressed flowers can preserve. We will talk about the "Herbarium of Feelings," the organizational systems of nature, and the rich symbolism of the floral world in art. And did you know that we humans are 30% related to dandelions?
1st Station:
Visit to the Volkskundemuseum at Paulustor
Meeting point: 12:30 PM, museum ticket office
The journey begins with a 30-minute exhibition tour. The focus is on the work Unforgettable by Regula Dettwiler in the Antoniuskirche – a monumental bouquet made up of thousands of flowers once dedicated to people.
Afterwards, we will continue on foot to Kunsthaus Graz.
2nd Station:
Guided tour of Kunsthaus Graz
Start: 1:00 PM, Duration: approx. 45 min
At Kunsthaus, you will immerse yourself in the poetic world of pressed flowers. We will discuss floral keepsakes, emotional herbaria, organizational systems, and the symbolism of flowers in art. Surprising nature facts – including our relationship with dandelions – are included.
3rd Station:
3-Course Menu at Landhauskeller
A flower-inspired menu forms a delightful conclusion.
After visiting the two BLOOM exhibitions at the Volkskundemuseum and Kunsthaus Graz, you can enjoy the day at Landhauskeller starting at 2:00 PM. There you will discover a "blooming" three-course menu, where flowers not only please the eye but also delight your palate. Edible, dried flowers add fine accents and make each dish a special experience.
