A varied two-summit hike in the Grazer Bergland featuring a short climbing section, great views and peaceful trails away from the main routes.

Although the Schiffall is slightly higher, the Kreuzkogel offers the more impressive summit experience. The short protected trail over a steep rock step adds an exciting element to the ascent. At the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views across the Murtal and the Grazer Bergland, including peaks such as Rote Wand, Hochlantsch, Gschwendtberg, Trötsch and Schöckl. With suitable equipment and good conditions, both summits can be reached throughout the year. The short climbing section can also be managed by children with confidence and care.

Car:
Via the S35 Laufnitzdorf exit to the starting point of the tour in Laufnitzdorf.

Starting point: Laufnitzdorf; parking on the main road, opposite the Schweizerhof inn. Continue straight ahead to the chapel, here turn right to the last house. Trail no. 531 via the Felber and Steiner farmsteads to the Schiffall (2 ½ hours); circular route via the Kreuzkogel (45 min.) with good views possible, but there is a short, secured rock step before the summit. Descent to Mixnitz is also possible.

The whole tour is well marked and easy to follow, path 531. From the Schiffall, continue to the Kreuzkogel. The Kreuzkogel can only be climbed by very easy scrambling. The climbing passages are secured with a wire rope. From the Kreuzkogel it's downhill again and a short detour back to the starting point. The fork is signposted so that you can change direction back in good time.

The tour starts in Laufnitzdorf. From the parking area on the main road opposite the Gasthaus Schweizerhof, follow the road straight ahead to the chapel. Turn right there and continue to the last house, where the marked trail no. 531 leads via the Felber and Steiner farmsteads up to Schiffall.

From Schiffall, the route continues to Kreuzkogel. The summit is reached via a short protected rock step requiring easy scrambling, secured with a steel cable. The top rewards hikers with excellent views across the Murtal and the Grazer Bergland. The descent follows a circular route back to the starting point. The junction for the return route is signposted.

A descent to Mixnitz is also possible.

The two summits Schiffall and Kreuzkogel can also be reached from Mixnitz, Göberlmoar. Those looking for a longer adventure can extend the circuit into a one-way hike and return by S-Bahn line 1, for example.

Bus:
Take Regiobus line 100 to Laufnitzdorf (weekdays only). On public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays, take S-Bahn line 1 to Frohnleiten and continue by GUSTmobil to GH Schweizerhof.

Parking is available in Laufnitzdorf along the main road opposite the Gasthaus Schweizerhof.
