Montanmuseum Holz und Eisen in Turrach

The small exhibition attempts to vividly present the mining history of this region. Among other topics, it covers the work of Peter Tunner senior and Peter Tunner junior, as well as the first "Bessemer pear" in the Austrian monarchy.

Until 1909, iron mining and smelting were in operation in Turrach.

At the Mining Museum, you will experience how the first steel was produced with the Bessemer converter on the European mainland in 1863. You will also gain insights into the lives of the miners and learn a lot about the history of the place. In addition to artisan tools, photos, maps, and documents can be seen. The tours are enhanced by a slide presentation.

Visits are only possible with a guided tour, from May to September every Friday at 14:00 and 15:30.

Guided tours outside of opening hours are available by telephone appointment!

In winter, the museum is closed.
