Ausseerland - Salzkammergut

It's quite clear that everyone enjoys mountains and lakes! Welcome to the geographic centre of Austria: Ausseerland-Salzkammergut. The landscape is characterised by imposing mountains and crystal-clear lakes. It is an immeasurable pleasure to find yourself in a direct and intensive dialogue with nature here. The unique landscape is a guarantee for a relaxing holiday. In spring, the wild daffodils adorn the flowery meadows of the region. They transform the mountain and lake landscape between the Dachstein, Loser and the Totes Gebirge into a flowering sea of blossoms. White and green as far as the eye can see. Experience the biggest flower festival in Austria, the Daffodil Festival, up close!

Summer holidays in Ausseerland–Salzkammergut are of course always associated with the term "hiking". Hiking trails around the many lakes in the region are awaiting you and are great places to turn it all off. On the lake high plateau of the Tauplitzalm, as well as the Bad Mitterndorf stage on the Hiking Route From the Glacier to the Wine, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountainous landscape on the 6-lake hike. The hiking trail unlocks the picturesque mountain lakes with their species-rich high-karst flora without major differences in altitude. In addition, the region offers breathtaking mountain biking tours between the Dachstein and the Totes Gebirge. To complete the experience, char and trout will take care of your hunger when you are in the enjoyment region of Ausseerland. Hosts will pamper you with a variety of regional specialities. As a change, you can put on some traditional costumes in the traditional costume capital of Bad Aussee.

In winter, the two ski areas of Loser and Tauplitz, over 200 kilometres of cross-country ski runs in all levels of difficulty as well as many winter hiking trails attract many people. A modern winter experience is combined in Ausseerland–Salzkammergut with the feeling of winter freshness. After a sporty day, the perfect winter delight awaits you: experiencing winter fun on the slopes or cross-country ski runs with guaranteed snow during the day and then diving into one of the two water worlds of the region and leaving winter to itself. Narzissen Bad Aussee and the Grimming Thermal Springs in Bad Mitterndorf invite you to feel the warmth of the water. Many culture and traditional customs events complete the offer in Ausseerland–Salzkammergut throughout the year.

Glaciers formed the landscape here and left the lakes behind: The lakes of Ödensee, Grundlsee, Lake Toplitz and Altaussee as well as the waters on the Tauplitzalm. Hikers get excited by this wonderful ambiance. Freshly caught fish and Styrian wine are enough to be happy.  The stage from the Stoderzinken to the Viehbergalm allows us to dive into Ausseerland-Salzkammergut on the Hiking Route From the Glacier to the Wine. This is true in the most literal sense of the word, because the Bad Mitterndorf stage includes the Grimming thermal springs. Afterwards it's time to go up to the Tauplitz alm, the largest lake high plateau in Central Europe before heading to Ennstal via the Totes Gebirge after another overnight stay.
