Geo in the heart
Geology is the name of the game in the village of Gams. The reason for this is the favourable location and the numerous rock and fossil finds that virtually anyone can make here. Even you and me!
An entire geology line has developed on this phenomenon. Virtually every attraction bears the first name "Geo". We have GeoWorkshop, GeoPath, GeoCentre and GeoRafting on offer. You can be sure of one thing - none of them are dusty.
It is rather unlikely that you will meet a chamois here. It's more likely to be a small village with friendly inhabitants, a village square with a chapel and a cosy church inn. Well, so much for chamois. So much for chamois. But now to the "Geo". In the middle of the Steirische Eisenwurzen Nature and Geopark, you can take a trip back in time that will make you fall out of your shoes, 250 million years in fact. Yes, you're crazy! Not only when you visit the stone ball mill do you realise that this topic is anything but dry - you would never have imagined that stones, their origin and formation could be so day-filling.
Stone & Co
In the stone ball mill at the exit of the Nothklamm gorge, there is virtually always a stone at work - it is formed into a ball entirely by water power. This is something quite unique in Styria. Then we continue through the natural beauty of the Nothklamm gorge to the hidden Kraushöhle cave. On to the GeoWerkstatt, where you can not only marvel at beautiful stones, but also make jewellery. This way you always have a good souvenir of the GeoTag in Gams. We can add one more thing: The geological features around Gams are so important that UNESCO has declared the Styrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park a UNESCO Global Geopark.
