Benedictine abbey Library & Museum
General Information
The many museums of Admont
A library known throughout the world and considered one of the most beautiful of all, surrounded by a wealth of knowledge in the form of museums: From art history to contemporary and natural history, you can not only gather information but also truly learn something. Everything is included, from the Benedictines themselves, the national park, and nature to barrier-free art.
In addition to the famous Abbey Library, which is truly world-renowned with 70,000 antique books and impressively beautiful in person, there is much more to experience at Stift Admont. Behind the venerable walls of the Benedictine monastery lie numerous museums. Now you have the dilemma of choice: either visit them all in one day or take extra time for each one. They are certainly enough to fill your day. Each year, alongside the permanent collection, a temporary exhibition also highlights the cultural star of Admont.
Diversity in museum form
Be all ears in the national park area and listen to the sounds of nature, or learn about the lives of the Benedictines? Stomp through the exhibits of the Natural History Museum following in the footsteps of the diligent Father Gabriel Strobl, or admire contemporary art pieces created specifically for Admont in the Museum of Contemporary Art? The range of museums is simply spectacular. But it can also be entirely classic. From Romanesque to Baroque, there are various sculptures, paintings, and textile artworks to admire in the ecclesiastical treasury. Thus, everyone can find their attraction at Stift Admont.
