Admonterhaus
Information
In the Shadow of the Admonter Warte
A magnificent view of Admont – at the Admonterhaus, one almost feels like Her Majesty Emperor Franz Joseph. Especially since it was opened on his 65th birthday. The highest hut in the Gesäuse offers authentic, homemade delicacies from savory to sweet. This strengthens you before continuing on to the namesake Warte, the Hexenturm, or the Natterriegel.
Mountain Worlds Total
You could also call the view from the Admonterhaus this. While enjoying a Radler, Gesäuse Pearl, or a bubbly beer for refreshment, you can take in one of the most beautiful views in the mountain world around Admont. The easiest ascent to the Admonterhaus is from the Buchauer Sattel and takes about two and a half hours. However, you can also start from Hall or Oberlaussa, but then you will be "on the road" for another half hour. An advantage of the Buchauer Sattel: On the way up lies the Grabneralm and the cheese-making facility of the agricultural vocational school Grabnerhof a few meters lower in altitude. Both are always worth a stop, so you don’t have to tackle all those elevation meters at once.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Emperor!
A funny detail about the Admonterhaus: It was opened on the 65th birthday of alpine enthusiast Emperor Franz Joseph. Then as now, there was no road to the hut. The stones were quarried nearby and brought to the site where the Alpine Club hut now stands by horse-drawn carriage. To this day, it is supplied only by helicopter or on foot, just like the Hess Hut. It is strategically good, by the way, because you can continue hiking to the Admonter Warte, the Hexenturm, or Natterriegel. The insured climb (only for the experienced!) with the catchy name "Jungfernsteig" to connect to the Grabnerstein flower mountain is also a dream.
