Over thousands of years, the Wörschachbach stream has constantly carved its way through the rock. Around the year 1880, traders and carters drove through this gorge with horse-drawn carts. This transportation of wood and charcoal, which was extracted at the coal site at the rear exit of the gorge, was also discontinued over time - several serious accidents were probably the reason for this.
The construction of the gorge path was a true pioneering achievement. The initiator of its construction was Gabriel Schally from Maitschern near Wörschach, who made a decisive contribution to the success of this work.
Today, secured footbridges lead through this wild and romantic natural monument. High above the gorge path, attentive visitors to the gorge can see rock caves that have been washed out on both sides of the rock faces.
Accessibility:
From the gorge parking lot, it is about a 10-minute walk to the gorge entrance
Above the town of Rottenmann in the Paltental valley, but located in the municipality of Lassing, the name Strechauerstmals is mentioned in 1074 (Alpine Slavic strechow = roof, shelter, protection). The partly Romanesque, partly Gothic fortification was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle in the mid-16th century under the Hoffmann family, leaders of the Styrian Protestant estates.
The Italianate inner courtyard and the Mannerist ceiling painting (1579) in the workroom are impressive proof of this. In the course of the Counter-Reformation, Admont Abbey took over the extensive possessions and rights associated with the castle under Abbot Urban in 1629. Under the leadership of Abbot Meinerdorf, the large granary, stables and the steward's building were built.
The steward Stary, a friend of Archduke Johann, adapted several rooms for him for personal and representative purposes. The archduke and his future wife Anna Plochl from Aussee met several times at the castle (1820-29), where they also wanted to celebrate their wedding, but this initially failed due to the lack of approval from the imperial brother in Vienna (Franz II).
Forest and wood, mountain and valley, faith and conviviality - the natural and cultural history of the Styrian Enns Valley, the Paltental and the Ausseerland is the focus of the permanent exhibition in Trautenfels Castle, which also fascinates with its high-quality baroque interior and its unforgettable view of the surrounding mountains!
Lake Putterersee not only impresses with its beautiful location in the middle of the Enns Valley mountains, but also with its excellent water quality and family-friendly swimming facilities with a toddler pool, diving platforms, trampolines and much more.

There are many stories about mining in Zeiringen. It is said to have been the largest in the Eastern Alps, the miners were rich men and the place has been cursed ever since they gave free reign to their exuberance!
One thing is certain: there are extensive tunnels that tell a fascinating story. Of miners who dug ore in smoke and almost without light. Of Zeiringer pfennigs that were minted and were “normal money” for medieval people.
Anyone who “enters” the silver mines today will be able to experience one thing in any case: an ancient myth that captivated people and ...still does.
