A surprisingly natural hike within Graz: through the cool Rettenbachklamm gorge, across orchards and up to Stephanienwarte for sweeping views over the city.
The hike starts at Waldhof/Rettenbachklamm stop and leads through the cool, shady Rettenbachklamm gorge. Forest trails and orchards lead through varied scenery to Stephanienwarte, named after Stephanie of Belgium, wife of Crown Prince Rudolf. Opened in 1880, the historic tower offers wide views over Graz. The return route passes woodland and pastures to Mariatrost Basilica, which rises impressively above the surrounding landscape, before continuing to the tram stop.

The entire route is easily accessible by
tram line 1.
