Sascha Paar: Gorious Soil – Performance
Movement without progress: Sascha Paar's performance Glorious Soil at the HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Graz deals with labor, bodily rhythms, and industrial origins.
Admission is free!
Always in motion and yet not a step further. In his Performance Glorious Soil Sascha Paar deals with the traces that work leaves in the body and in life. On December 3rd 2026, the work will be performed three times at the HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Graz, making the rhythm of repetition itself part of the artistic concept.
At the center is a simple, poignant scene: A person runs on a treadmill, next to them lies soil. The body moves incessantly, without changing its location. Interruptions and repeated movements make visible how closely physical effort, habit, and the urge to continue are connected.
The performance questions a society where activity and productivity are taken for granted. Movement becomes a symbol of a work environment that demands constant performance, even when no actual progress is being made.
Personal experiences also flow into the work. Sascha Paar grew up as the son of a factory worker in Bruck an der Mur. The work world shaped by iron, steel, and paper industries in Styria forms an important background for his artistic engagement. Shift work, fixed routines, and physical strain have determined the daily lives of many people over generations.
Glorious Soil connects this industrial past with current questions about work, origins, and societal performance pressure.
The performance will take place on Thursday, December 3rd, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Each performance repeats the same artistic sequence, thereby opening a new perspective on movement, standstill, and time. Admission is free.
Access is possible via tram lines 1 and 7 as well as bus lines 30, 31, and 39 at the station Oper / Kaiser-Josef-Platz.
