A special musical highlight awaits the audience in the casemates at Schlossberg Graz. Under the promising title "Legends, Pop & Symphony," the State Youth Wind Orchestra (LJBO) Styria, under the musical direction of the Italian conductor, composer, and professor of wind orchestra conducting, Marco Somadossi, presents a concert program that impressively combines stylistic diversity, musical quality, and a summery atmosphere.
The evening's highlights include the challenging works "Dance Movements" by Philip Sparke and "The Stone Guardians" by Thomas Doss. Both pieces are part of an intensive preparation for the renowned international wind orchestra competition Flicorno d'Oro in Riva del Garda, showcasing both the musical caliber and tonal range of the orchestra. The concert evening opens up a diversity that goes well beyond mere competition literature: Under the motto "Legends, Pop & Symphony," a common thread runs through the history of wind music in its engagement with pop and rock music. Impressive symphonic arrangements meet familiar melodies, presented in a new sound guise. This results in a varied program that connects tradition and modernity, offering a wide musical spectrum for many generations.
The Landesjugendblasorchester Steiermark brings together young musicians from all regions of Styria into a symphonic ensemble. About 70 talents – from Bad Aussee to Bad Radkersburg, from Mariazell to Spielfeld – unite their sonic power and impressively demonstrate the potential of Styrian youth in wind music.
With new interpretations and artistic collaborations of the highest level, the selection orchestra, led by state youth advisor Sabrina Csrnko and Markus Adam, showcases the diversity and quality that Styrian youth wind music has to offer.
