Guided walk: From Modriach to Großofen

Su., 12.07.2026 from 08:30 o'clock

A guided hike leads from Modriach over the Großofen to the Freiländeralm and connects impressive rock formations, wide views, and varied forest paths.

Registration required!

This guided hike takes you into the diverse mountain landscape around Modriach, combining scenic forest paths with striking rock formations. The moderately difficult tour is aimed at experienced hikers and includes approximately 13 kilometers and about 600 meters of elevation gain. Plan for a total walking time of about five to six hours, including breaks.

The starting point is the village square in Modriach. After a short section along the road, the route steadily climbs along hiking and forest paths to the Großofen. This prominent rock formation is one of the most well-known viewpoints in the region. Those who wish can climb the viewpoint rock via well-secured short wooden ladders and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. More impressive rock formations around the Großofen invite exploration.

After a break, the hike continues for a while towards Freiländeralm, before a slightly different route is chosen for the return to Modriach. At the end, there is the opportunity to stop by one of the dining establishments in the village.

Meeting point is on July 12th at 08:30 a.m. at the Köflach train station. From there, we will travel together to Modriach in car pools.
