Two-part ballet evening at the Graz Opera
On a July day in 1518, a woman began to dance through the streets of Strasbourg. She danced for days on end. Soon, the dancing fever had captured several hundred people. – What is the power of collective hysteria that can so wholly consume us? What prompts us to participate in this, viewed from a distance, almost absurd occurrence?
After her audience-acclaimed production "On the Disappearance of Bodies" in the 23/24 season, choreographer Maura Morales returns to Graz and now explores on the main stage with the dancers of Ballett Graz the compelling effect of ecstasy and dance through her powerful, sensual body language – once again to the driving, rhythmic, almost hypnotic sounds of Michio Woirgardt.
Since 2019, choreographers Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich have been leading their company Metamorphosis Dance in Madrid, touring across Europe at festivals. Together, they work as guest choreographers for, among others, Ballett Basel, Aterballetto in Italy, and the Royal Ballet Birmingham. For the first time, an energetic and furious work by the duo will be seen in Austria.
