Exhibition: Try ök-aut

Try ök-aut – Experimenting for an ecological future brings together art, research, and everyday life in Reininghaus in Graz. In the Tennenmälzerei at UNESCO-Esplanade 9, works are being created that show how clay, sawdust, mycelium, and 3D-printable biomaterials can be envisioned as materials of tomorrow.

Five artists (Beate Gatschelofer, Ina Loitzl, Barbara Schmid, Dominik Einfalt & Jan Contoala) and a class from AHS Reininghaus are working with researchers from TU Graz on forms, surfaces, and applications that not only demonstrate sustainability but embody it in their very creation. The exhibition builds on WASTE ART STYRIA and transforms the place into an open laboratory for art, design, science, and education. Between the workshop, conversation, and exhibition, a view of a resource-efficient future emerges that remains approachable while thinking far ahead.

Those interested in sustainable materials, contemporary art, and new ideas from Styria will not find ready-made answers here, but rather visible attempts with a sense of purpose for the neighborhood. Try ök-aut is thereby an exhibition for Graz that takes regional collaboration seriously and shows how the future is built from small steps, smart materials, and shared curiosity.

From June 12 to July 10, 2026, this work process will be visible in the Graz Region as part of the cultural life. The connections between school, university, and studio are short here: This makes Reininghaus in Graz a place where Styria sees art not as decoration, but as a tool for tomorrow.
