Day trip: A journey through time on the rails
From the Lieboch Railway Museum with the Red Blitz to Preding, then with the Flascherlzug to Stainz: A ride on the historic narrow-gauge track of West Styria.
Registration required!
The Lieboch Railway Museum preserves vehicles and memories of the narrow-gauge railways of Western Styria. On October 26, it opens for a guided tour before the actual journey begins.
The Red Blitz takes the group from Lieboch to Preding. The railcar operated for decades on the route between Graz and the western Styrian municipalities and is today one of the most well-known vehicles of the Styrian Regional Railways. In Preding, the Flascherlzug, a restored steam train named after the appearance of its carriages, awaits. It continues to Stainz, the endpoint of the historic route.
Thus, the excursion begins in a relaxed manner:
- Departure: 11:00 a.m. Lendkai 11, 8020 Graz (near Kunsthaus)
- Cost: € 39.00 per person
- Return: approx. 4:00 p.m.
- Registration required! Tourist information Region Graz, Herrengasse 16, 8010 Graz, +43 316 80750 or info@regiongraz.at
- Included: Bus, guide, admissions, and culinary samples
- Note: Good footwear is recommended! The excursions take place in all weather conditions
After a break in Stainz, the return journey to Lieboch takes the same route back. The route passes through the hilly wine country of Styria, past orchards and small villages. By the end of October, the landscape shows its fall colors.
