Altstadt.Kriterium
With speed through the Graz old town: The Altstadt.Kriterium brings thrilling cycling, tight corners, and genuine racing atmosphere right into the center.
On July 28, 2026, the city center of Graz belongs to racing bikes: The Old Town Criterion returns – and is for the first time part of the Road Cycling League Austria. The route? A 980-meter long circuit right through the old town. The start and finish are at Café Promenade in Stadtpark, passing the opera, Burggasse, and Hofgasse – over cobblestones, through narrow alleys, and with a view of historic facades. A course made for excitement and atmosphere.
Racing takes place in two competitions: The women complete 30 laps, the men 50 – both for the same prize money. The pace is high, the corners technical, and the audience is very close. The climb at Burgtor challenges the legs, the sprint at Opernring excites the crowd. Graz presents itself from a sporty-urban side – with flair, history, and cycling culture.
By the way: The Old Town Criterion has a tradition in Styria. Since 1984, numerous cycling stars have been celebrated here – most recently in 2025 with the victory of Loic Bettendorff. The Graz Region brings the spectacle back to the streets.
Public accessibility: Tram 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7 I Stop: Hauptplatz
