Advent concert in the parish church

As Christmas approaches and music accompanies the anticipation for the festival, Advent and Christmas carols unfold their special magic. On Sunday, December 13 2026, the parish church St. Thomas in the Woods in Premstätten will become a festive venue for an Advent concert featuring songs from around the world.

At the center of the event is the internationally active tenor Johannes Chum, who has curated the program for this pre-Christmas concert afternoon. Together with Sonja Schadler on the recorder, Matthias Unterkofler on the organ, and the four-member vocal ensemble Puella, he will musically dedicate the event to the Advent and Christmas season.

With Puella, an ensemble returns to a familiar place: The quartet had its first performance in 2012 in Premstätten. The repertoire of the four singers ranges from ballads and pop songs to folk songs and traditional Advent and Christmas carols. Matthias Unterkofler, church music director of the parish Herz Jesu in Graz and director of the Graz chapel boys, can be heard on the organ.

The combination of singing, recorder, and organ, along with Christmas songs from different countries, makes the concert a musical introduction to the final days before the festival. The concert begins at 4:00 p.m. – a time when the parish church provides the perfect setting for a reflective Advent Sunday full of Christmas music.

Tickets are available online. Premstätten can be reached by public transport.
