West, North: From Bregenz/Innsbruck via the A 12, A 93 and A 8 to Salzburg. From Salzburg on the A 10 to St. Michael im Lungau. From here on the B 96 to Tamsweg and further towards Murau via Sauerfeld to Krakau.

From Klausnerberg-Säge, we head northwest through the Rantental valley. At the so-called “Bahnhof” (train station), we keep to the right. Shortly before Lake Rantensee, at a rock with a wayside shrine, we keep to the right again and walk past Lake Hinterkarsee to the Hinterkarscharte pass (2,274 m). We continue towards the Upper and Lower Wiegensee lakes. On the way there, we have the option of taking the turnoff to the Predigtstuhl (2,543 m) for a detour. A few metres after the Wiegenkarsee lake, we continue to the Rantenthörl (2,166 m) and the Rantensee lake. From there, we take the familiar path back to the starting point.
The long valley route can be shortened with the valley bus (runs during the summer holidays).
For mountaineers, a detour to the Predigtstuhl is recommended.
