The Wood Museum is also a destination for any weather; you can spend the whole day in the museum and the surrounding area, whether exploring the museum, social activities such as bowling, nailing, walking on stilts; or simply wander through the arboretum, there await the visitor numerous different species of trees and shrubs, many wild herbs, the barefoot path and the shelter hut. Of course, the lovingly designed wooden water playground scores points with families.

Our guests can charge their e-bike or e-car for free at our charging station during their visit.

The wood museum has stood in the middle of the wood district of Murau in St. Ruprecht ob Murau since 1988. A special place to find out everything about the fascinating raw material wood on an indoor and outdoor area of more than 10,000 m². That a museum has to be anything but "bland" becomes clear in this real wood adventure world!

Special exhibitions 2022

- "WOOD - FASCINATION - TRADITION" The exhibition in the main building deals with the many, different customs and traditions around the material wood. Under the motto "Preserve old cultural assets and customs" and bring them back to memory. A broadly spread ramble of the Sonnwendfeuer over the "Zoachn" up to the regional customs.

- In the HolzBauHaus the exhibition "DENK mal WALD-WILD-JAGD" is shown for another year. With the theme "Nature obliges" - the motto of the Landesjägerschaft, we will show in this exhibition, which will last several years, not only everything about hunting, wild animals and their habitats, but also the ecological handling in harmony with nature. Focus 2022: roe deer, red deer and woodpeckers.

The green gold has always accompanied our lives. The wood museum shows this in old workshops (carpenters, wainwrights, coopers...) with partly unique exhibits like a woodcutter's hut and ancient agricultural tools or with curiosities like the Brockenlotter. These permanent exhibition areas are constantly renewed and changed. Every year there are new special exhibitions on "wood and forest themes", so the Wood Museum remains constantly NEW and interesting.

Summer program 2022

Accompanied walk to the Arboretum - Baumgarten

From 4 July to 9 September on Mondays from 14.00 hrs, registration before 12.00 hrs on the respective day, takes place with a minimum registration of 10 people, meeting point: ticket office in the Wood Museum Duration approx. 1 hour, price: with valid entrance ticket free of charge, otherwise € 3,50

Grain mill St. Ruprecht ob Murau - look over the miller's shoulder

Every Thursday, July 14 and 28, August 4/11 and 25, 2:00 p.m., meeting point at the grain mill. Parking at the Wood Museum, entrance fee: voluntary donation.

Summer crafts - creative program for ALL

From July 4 to September 9, 2022, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m., our craft room will be open again, where children of all ages and the whole family can make wooden crafts under expert guidance.
