Organ concert at the Vonbank organ - Murau Organ Week
As part of the Murau Organ Week, there will be an organ concert on the Vonbank organ by Manuel Schuen at the Capuchin Church in Murau on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 7.30 p.m. A focus of the program will be on Marian organ music just days before the Feast of the Assumption. Some pieces will also be performed alternatim – that is, in alternation between organ and vocals. Works by Erbach, Frescobaldi, Böhm, Muffat, Bach, and others will be performed.
Manuel Schuen, born in Bruneck (South Tyrol) and raised in the Ladin Gadertal, completed his studies in Church Music, focusing on choir conducting and singing, as well as concert organ performance (under Roman Summereder) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He enhanced his organ studies with a one-year program under Pier Damiano Peretti.
As an organist, he performs in Austria and abroad and is a prizewinner of several international organ competitions: Borca di Cadore, "Daniel Herz" in Brixen, “Schnitger Organ Competition” in Alkmaar, “Paul-Hofhaimer Competition” in Innsbruck. He was the conductor of the Unisono Choir Vienna and a member of the Arnold Schönberg Choir (conducted by Erwin Ortner).
Since 2008, he has served as the head of church music at the Vienna Michaeler Church and is the organist of the historical Sieber organ from 1714 located there. He is the founder and director of the "Ensemble Vox Archangeli" (CD "Regina Angelorum" released by Gramola).
In 2018, he emerged as the winner of a composition competition for sacred choral music in the Ladin language and became a prizewinner of the Erwin Ortner Fund for the promotion of choral music in 2021. In 2022, he took over the chair of the music committee in the Austrian Choral Association.
Since 2020, he has acted as deputy director of the Institute for Organ, Organ Research, and Church Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he was employed as a lecturer for basso continuo and performance practice on historical organs from 2013–2024. Since October 2024, he has held the chair for choir and ensemble conducting at the institute.
