Imperial train

A special highlight in Murau is the Kaiserzug, a historic special train that offers a nostalgic journey from Murau to Frojach every year in September. On September 13, 2026, at 2:15 PM, a trip will again take place in the company of the imperial highness from the Murau train station. In the carriage hall of the railway museum in Frojach, Your Majesty will hold an audience, where one can get an imperial autograph. There is a unique collection of narrow-gauge vehicles, including valuable rarities from the Technical Museum of Vienna. The Club 760, the friends of the Murtalbahn, have made it their mission to preserve these special pieces of Austrian railway history. In the buffet car, visitors will be offered "food and drink." For railway and nostalgia lovers, the Kaiserzug is a must, as it makes a journey into the past and the beauty of the region particularly experienceable.

Program / Schedule Kaiserzug 2026:
Kaiser reception at the Murau train station and boarding of the Kaiserzug
2:15 PM – Departure to Frojach
2:40 PM – Arrival in Frojach
                  Visit of the vehicle exhibition: Club 760 / Friends of the Murtalbahn
                  Audience with the Emperor with photo opportunity and autograph session
4:10 PM – Departure in Frojach back to Murau
4:35 PM – Arrival in Murau

Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum Frojach – Experience railway rarities up close!
Take advantage of the rare opportunity to visit the Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum Frojach – it only opens its doors as part of the Kaiserzug journey from Murau to Frojach-Katschtal! In the exhibition hall built in the late 1970s right at the train station, a fascinating collection of historic vehicles from the world of Austrian narrow-gauge railways awaits you. Impressive steam locomotives – including the mighty five-coupler Kh111 of the Murtalbahn and the elegant S11 of the legendary Salzkammergut Local Railway – can be admired and photographed up close.

Special highlights include the imperial salon carriage S152, historical mail cars from various railways as well as lovingly restored exhibits from over 130 years of railway history. A diesel locomotive from the StLB will pull the vehicles out of the hall into the open air – for the best view and ideal photo opportunities.
