Conclusion of the Murau Organ Week 2026

The focus of this evening is on arrangements of German church songs from the German Baroque as well as the German and French modern periods. The songs tell, especially in the face of worries and troubles, of trust in God, the desire and longing for a good outcome, and gratitude for all the healing experiences of life. Their well-known melodies are dressed in different stylistic forms and instrumental sounds (trumpet and various organ registrations). The French sound idiom bridges to secular music, which can also be heard with organ pieces of the German Romantic period.
Wolfgang Bodem built the organ in the parish church of St. Lorenzen/Scheifling using materials from the Vorarlberg organ builder Leonhard Illenberger. As a modern instrument, it is stylistically not fixed.
The Styrian Jürgen Brunner (trumpet) studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the Carinthian State Conservatory with a major in trumpet under Prof. Gottfried Isopp and concert trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz under Prof. Uwe Köller.
Since 2010, he has been working as a teacher at the municipal music school in Murau. His tasks there include instrumental teaching, as well as preparing students for playing in an ensemble, in the orchestra, and as soloists.
His artistic activities include performances with the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra Graz, the Cathedral Orchestra Graz, the Haydn Orchestra Vienna, the Austrian Brass Band as a solo cornetist and solo flugelhornist, bandleader of the group BRASS-taasciutta, as well as several bands in the popular music sector.
In 2007, Jürgen Brunner was awarded at the concert “Young Soloists” of the Vienna Jeunesse. Numerous solo performances at various concerts are on the agenda.
The Murau Organ Week 2026
Once again this year, the Murau Organ Week welcomes you with a diverse program. The spectrum ranges from the Middle Ages to the present, from the portative to the modern organ. You can expect an organ tour with a meet-and-greet to open the week, an organ mass, four concerts, and the opportunity to visit the oldest organ in Murau, all offerings that provide you with exclusive insights into the fascinating organ landscape of the city and the district of Murau. In this year’s three concerts, singing will also complement and enrich the organ sound, culminating in the week's closing concert where the trumpet joins the organ in a chamber music concert as a partner.
