The guided tours of Murau Castle, which take place every Wednesday and Friday from 15.05.2026 to 25.09.2026, provide an insight into life behind the castle gate and the history of Murau Castle. The tour starts at 2.00 p.m., please arrive early enough at the castle gate. No registration is necessary for regular tours. Note: Cash payment only! Special tours for groups are available by telephone reservation at +43 3532 230258 in German, English, and Dutch.

Above the town of Murau stands the castle of Murau, which belongs to the Schwarzenberg family. The castle can only be visited as part of the guided tours offered.

The castle, first mentioned in 1250, was presumably built by Ulrich von Liechtenstein. The rule of Murau was long in the possession of the Liechtenstein family and remained with the widow Anna Neumann von Wasserleonburg after the extinction of the lineage. Anna Neumann married in her sixth marriage the Imperial Count Georg Ludwig zu Schwarzenberg in 1617. Georg Ludwig had the castle demolished in 1628 and built the Renaissance castle in its present form. Since then, the Schwarzenbergs have been the owners of the rule of Murau.

During the guided tours of the castle, which also lead through the art gallery, kitchen, dungeon, and chapel, an impression of life behind the castle gate and the history of the rule and castle of Murau as well as the House of Schwarzenberg is conveyed.
