Rettenwandhöhle Kapfenberg
Kapfenberg
A magical realm underground!
In the electrically lit limestone cave with an expanded visitor path, you can admire splendid stalactites, stalagmites, and stalactite columns. A special feature is the richness of flowstone, pearlsinter, and knob-and-button flowstone.
The tour is conducted by a trained cave guide.
Good footwear and warm clothing are necessary due to the natural cave floor and the low temperature of 8.5 degrees! The access from the parking lot at the PEWAG factory on B 20 to the cave takes about 20 minutes.
The Rettenwand Cave has reopened since July 2026 after extensive modernization work!
All information about the cave can be found at www.rettenwandhoehle.at
Guided tours will take place on Sundays and holidays until September 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at every full hour.
No advance bookings are necessary for these tours.
Groups of 10 or more can also book tours outside of these times.
Travel
By car... The cave is located about 4 km outside of Kapfenberg on the B 20 towards Mariazell (near the farm "Mariazellerstraße 135" in 8605 Kapfenberg). You leave the federal road at the PEWAG plant and park your vehicle there. The cave entrance can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes.
By public transport... Since June 2024, our cave also has its own bus stop called "Rettenwandhöhle" which is served by regional bus lines between Kapfenberg, Aflenz, Turnau & Mariazell.
