The Forest: Source of Strength
850 million trees make Styria the green heart of Austria – and nowhere does it beat stronger than in the holiday region between Semmering, Mariazellerland, Hochschwab and Rennfeld.
Far away from tourist trails and noise, you’ll find peace – and quickly new energy. A walk on soft moss, accompanied by the gentle rustling of leaves and the deep-green landscapes, is a healing experience for body and mind.
In short: Woodness is the wellness of Hochsteiermark. Combined with mindful nature experiences, breathtaking fresh-air adventures, majestic mountain scenery, culinary and cultural delights, and warm Styrian hospitality.
In harmony with nature
The forest is not only a place of peace, but also a living ecosystem full of secrets. Forest education reveals these hidden wonders and invites you to experience nature with all your senses. Through interactive activities and engaging storytelling, the forest becomes a place of learning, amazement and discovery – for children as well as adults.
Forest bathing builds on this principle and goes one step further: it invites you to focus on mindfulness and relaxation. The forest becomes a place of inner peace. With conscious breathing, slow walking and the tactile experience of nature, the mind calms and the body regenerates.
In Hochsteiermark, certified forest bathing guides accompany you on this journey – with experience, mindfulness and a deep love of nature.

Whether feeling the tones in the sound tree, experiencing gravity on the suspension bridge, or walking barefoot on different surfaces, the Forest of the Senses is a special place. With 23 energy stations, it offers time to recharge and do something good for yourself. While parents relax in the thyme bed and enjoy the magnificent views, children can play freely on the suspension bridge, in the nest hangout, or in the treehouse. And everyone wants a spot in the sound tree!
Good to know: The circular trail is open from May to October and can be explored independently at any time, or – by prior arrangement – with a guided tour.
