The castle restaurant offers a historic ambiance for weddings, family celebrations, and corporate events, with a guest garden, sun terrace, seminar rooms, and larger event spaces. For our youngest guests, Burg Oberkapfenberg also offers a unique children's birthday program for knights and princesses, complete with a treasure hunt through Burg Oberkapfenberg.
New since March 26: Burgkulinarik Kranawetter
Welcome to us.
Spring is coming – and fresh food is being served at the castle. Starting March 7, 2026, a new breeze will blow through the castle. It comes from the kitchen of Karl Kranawetter, smelling of fresh herbs and bubbling pots – and a bit like Mom's Sunday cooking from the past.
Kranawetter is a trained cook and waiter, as well as an entrepreneurial restaurateur with nearly 50 years of experience both at home and abroad – from a sausage stand in Germany to a Michelin-starred restaurant on Mondsee. And yes: He calls roast pork “light fare” – and smiles while doing so. “Light because a traditional roast pork simmers slowly for 12 hours at 60 degrees. The fat renders out – what remains is tender meat with a crispy crust.” Served with raw sauerkraut, as it ideally prepares the stomach for the meat. So he says. And he happily explains it personally to guests.
Hosts with heart and integrity He always has an open ear for guests – sometimes he even reads wishes from their lips. This has led to tears of joy over airy Kaiserschmarrn. Karl Kranawetter is a host of the “old school”: approachable, straightforward, with a sense of humor. His team works hard – and laughs a lot.
Appreciation and respect are very important to the native of Kapfenberg. “Here in Styria, we live in a kind of paradise: fish from mountain lakes and rivers, Styrian cheese around the corner, game from Upper Styria, beef from Michlbauerhof, the good turkey and the happy pig from the Krautgartners, and vegetables and juices from the Lanzer family in Bruck an der Mur. Nature is my pantry – and from it, we create culinary treasures for the table.
Speaking of nearby delights: As a true wine connoisseur, there are fine drops to match the dishes and for every taste. We offer exquisite wines from Styrian wineries like Ploder am Rosenberg, Winkler-Hermaden, Karl Schnabl, Lamprecht, Georg, and Georg Schmelzer from Gols or Holzmann.
What will you find on our plates?
Seasonal dishes, freshly prepared – with products from the region. Less is more: no frills, no industrial mush. Instead, more flavor, more craftsmanship – and that warm homey feeling in your belly. Food that tastes like coming back.
Classic dishes are served in their original form: a “decent” roast pork, a “real” sausage with mashed potatoes – and seasonal, especially vegetarian surprises. What a “real” sausage is, he will gladly explain to you personally. So: stop by at Kranawetter. He and his team are already looking forward to seeing you!
